And in a state that gets HOT in the summer (we’re talking triple-digit temperatures for months on end), that cold water feels really good! The Comal River is a spring-fed river in Texas. So if you really want to know one of the most popular activities in New Braunfels, it’s floating the river.Īnd if you’re not from Texas and you don’t know what it means to float the river, here’s a brief for ya: People go to New Braunfels with the sole intention to float the river…and do nothing else. Go swimming at the Landa Park Aquatic Complex, which includes an Olympic-sized pool, a kiddie pool, and a natural swimming area. ![]() And there are lots of other things to do at Landa Park, too! Over the last 90 years, the city has added an Olympic-sized swimming pool, an 18-course golf course, and a miniature train. But as railroads started coming down to New Braunfels, more and more folks discovered this oasis, which is all centered around the natural Comal Springs, and loved visiting it as a tourist destination.Īs the park eventually landed in the city of New Braunfels’ ownership, multiple improvements have been made. It was actually privately owned by the Landa family until 1927. This really is a remarkable place to visit and one of the top things to do in New Braunfels. This isn’t just any old random park that I’m listing to fill up space on a travel blog post….promise. It’s beautiful! It’s a 51-acre park with giant oak trees, walking trails, and a peaceful ambiance. Landa Park really is the crown jewel of New Braunfels. Check out their website to see the most up-to-date prices. You can easily make a day out of it!īoth day passes and season passes are available, as well as group discounts, military discounts, and other options. Schlitterbahn has multiple places to eat, so you don’t have to worry about packing food or leaving the park to go get lunch. And the whole park has the same theme going with it, so it’s branded really well and just makes for a fun time. I mean… Blastenhof? Surfenburg? Come on! Tubenbach? They went with the German influences in New Braunfels and just ran with it. One of my favorite parts of Schlitterbahn is the way they name the various parts of the waterpark. There’s nothing like waking up AT the waterpark to get those kiddos excited! And did you know Schlitterbahn is a resort? Yep! They have 7 different options for accommodations including condos, a budget-friendly hotel, and a vacation rental with 5 rooms. It has four distinct sections that include dozens and dozens of pools, lazy rivers, rides, waterslides, and other fun adventures. It’s a great thing to do in New Braunfels with a family, but you could also have fun here with a group of friends. I seriously remember so much anticipation before the weekend trip finally arrived, because it seriously is the World’s Best Waterpark. Other reviews said you can switch films in the intermission but the graphics on the screen said this was not allowed.Ok, it’s an obvious first choice for things to do in New Braunfels…but I can’t start this guide any other way! My childhood was full of visits to this EPIC waterpark in Texas. But it was a lot of fun and effectively two movies for the price of 1 even if we were literally a little Frozen ourselves by the 11pm finish. There weren't many people there, we weren't bothered by anyone else though people do seem to like to move their cars around and few left sidelights on which other people got out and asked them to turn off. ![]() The movie screen was crystal clear, in fact our only challenge on movie number two ironically this was Frozen 2 was out front windscreen misting up due to the cold and we noticed most of the pick ups had changed themselves round to sit inside the cabs. The film audio comes through dedicated FM channels, cute mini movies beforehand all stylised with 1950s graphics tell you what to do. Then off to the fifties diner where food was OK, my grilled chicken was tough and seems to have had an encounter with a microwave on its journey. ![]() We chose Spies in Disguise and Frozen 2 as the double feature, parked up in screen three, deciding with our SUV to stay inside the vehicle whilst others got out lawn chairs and reversed into spaces. On arrival you go through toll booths and two adults and one child was about $22. ![]() So a December visit to Stars and Stripes was a lot of fun. We're from the UK so completely unused to drive in movie theatres except what we see in movies themselves.
